Goodbye 2007!

Just came back from a karaoke session with the family at K-box. Parents included. Hehe.. it's their first time in a karaoke, thankfully the room we were in were smoke-less otherwise we might hear no end of it.

Let's see, to sum up my end of the year celebrations:

Christmas

3 nights at Shens
1 night at the Loft, Waterfront
1 night at Mar's place
= 5 nights of drinking in a row
Not good for my health and I think I used up my alcohol quote for the year already. So I got to wait till the stroke of midnight today for the counter to be reset. Yeah, right.

Hwa's birthday
Had nice dinner at Gunther's followed by drinks at Atmosphere. KW was in town.

New Year
Cross my fingers that we actually make it to Shens tonight. Lukewarm response from everyone... Hmm...

No new year resolutions for me, I never get around to doing them anyway.

Happy New Year 2008 everyone!

Home sweet home

Finally back home in KK...

Went diving this morning. Didn't realised my last dive was in May 2005. Had a mini panic attack last night when we couldn't find the Open Water manual. Heck, I couldn't even remember how to fix up my gear! Got some last minute pointers from Mar over coffee. And did a bit of the damsel-in-distress-need-your-help-moves on the divemaster and made it through. Visibility wasn't so great but at least it wasn't raining. Was a bit seasick after the second dive though so the divemaster let us sit on top of the cabin. Nice view and very strong wind!

Dinner out tonight with the girls and moving on to Shens after that. Yay!!

Sunday syndrome

Let's see what did I do this weekend.

Did laundry. Ironed 2 weeks worth of clothes. Finished up all my csi's. Cleared out my fridge (cooked and fed my housemate and his friend dinner today). Trimmed my hair. Was contemplating the Rihanna hairstyle but I don't think my boss would be ready to accept it.

Just finished watching 300, which I downloaded more than a month ago. Brilliant show.

Oh, forgot to mention, I got my confirmation letter effective 1 Nov. No difference at all to my current pay and benefits. So let me think, what's the benefit of being confirmed... Hmm.. now I can get fired with 3 months notice instead of 1 month? Vice versa.

I have a habit of sleeping late on Sunday nights. I think the mind is unwilling to accept that tomorrow is the start of yet another working week and therefore, refuses to shut down. I call it the Sunday syndrome. So tomorrow, I will go in to work looking like sh*t the way I always do on a Monday morning.

3 more days to home. Yay... So looking forward to it. Got a pile of X'mas cards next to me, must send them tomorrow.

Hello December!

I haven't blogged for a a half of a year! And this account is still alive, so to celebrate it's "not dead" status I thought I should just put in a few posts before the year is over.

Had dinner at some friends' house just now. And met someone who was so LCLY I hope I never meet him again.

He ignored me when I tried to introduce myself. Me and my extended hand. Hello???

He continued to ignore my attempt while he interrogated my housemate about his work. For the record, my housemate has ALSO just introduced himself.

When my housemate tried to introduce me, he actually said, "ya, ok.. later... " and continued to ask my housemate about his work, dept, etc until he was satisfied and finally turned to me.

Me: Hi, I'm YL.
Him: Surname?
Me: Er... Lim.
Him: So I should call you Lim.
Me:Call me YL. I'm more used to YL.
(He pointed to my housemate)
Him:But he is Kong. So I should call you Lim.
Me: I prefer to be called YL. He introduces himself as Kong, because he is used to being called Kong.
Kong: Kong is an uncommon surname and its easier to remember than my Chinese name.
Him: No, Kong is not an uncommon surname.I know more then 10 people by that surname.

Seriously... seriously... this is how you make friends? By questioning what their preferred name is???

Second attempt at being friendly. Only me and him in the room now, got to make sort of conversation.

Me: I'm new in the company, just joined in March
Him: I see. I am also very new.
Me: Oh, when did you join? (Happy to have a common ground to start a conversation)
Him: 4 years ago.
*wtf*
Me: Wah, if that is new. Then I am very very very very new lar. (hoping to inject some humour)
Him: I'm very new compared to the people who has served 20+ years.

I er.... dunno what to say. Maybe you can't tell from the conversation. But he had this farking LCLY-I-am-more-intelligent-than-you-look on his face all the time.

In the short 2 hours, I already know he can run 10km in 40+ mins, he does triathlons on a regular basis, dances all sorts of ballroom and latin dances, does performances at functions, flies so often for business that he has Enrich Gold and enjoys upgrading his friend's to business class.

Luckily Kong was sick so I can escape dinner early. Gawd... Some people...
